Meet The Ladies

-Why We Do What We Do-

Every year we provide a list of resources for our women's retreat and you'll find those books and more on this blog. Every book has been previewed, and this includes reading the material to see if it meets the following criteria:

  • What it teaches about the person and nature of God must be in line with what the Bible itself says about the person and nature of God.
  • The instruction and encouragement the book provides is the reflection of God's instruction and encouragement found in the Bible. In other words, the authors counsel should come as an explanation and application of the scripture, not scripture included to support the authors conclusions and advice.
  • It should have a pretty cover.

Okay, that last one isn't true.  The need for you and I to be discerning readers has never been more important though, as we see more of the unsaved world influencing the church in matters of essentials of doctrine and a moving away from what God calls evil to a redefinition that suits humanity. More and more books published and marketed as Christian are showing a frightening blur of the line of truth.  Perhaps worse are the the books that are off by just a few degrees, that instead of calling us higher, they leave where we are, instead of taking us deeper, they leave us in shallow waters.  Don't settle for potato chips, when the Bread of Life is on the table.

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."

Philippians 4:8 (NASB)
